Privacy
Catch the Peak collects as little as it can: your email address if you sign up for peak alerts, and nothing else about you beyond what any website's host sees.
What we collect
- No accounts. The only thing you can give us is an email address, if you sign up for peak alerts.
- Anonymous visit counts (below). No tracking across sites and no advertising.
- No cookies, and nothing stored in your browser.
Peak alerts by email (not open yet)
Sign-ups aren't open yet, so there's nowhere on the site to give us your email address today. When they open, this is how it will work, and this page will say so with a new date. When you sign up, your email address and the places or states you picked go to Buttondown, the service that sends our alerts. We don't keep a copy on our own servers. Buttondown also records the usual details of a sign-up (such as the time and the address it came from) to stop spam and abuse.
- You confirm by clicking a link in the first email. Nothing is sent before that.
- We use your address only to send the alerts you picked: one email when an official report says a place has reached the stage you chose.
- We never sell, rent or share it, and we never add you to anything else.
- Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all alerts right away.
Our postal address: 2054 Wirt Rd STE F, Houston, TX 77055.
“Use my location”
On the towns page, “Use my location” asks your browser for your position only when you click it, and only if you allow it. The nearest towns are worked out inside the page itself: your position is never sent to us or anyone else, and it isn't stored.
Sponsors
If you sponsor the site, you pay once for a calendar month through Stripe, which handles your card and billing details; we never see your card, and nothing is charged again. The details you send for your card (business name, logo, one line, website, contact email) come to us by email and are kept only to run your sponsorship. The sponsor details form works inside your browser and sends nothing to our servers.
Hosting
The site runs on Vercel, which processes each request (including your IP address) to serve pages and keep the site secure.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views: which pages are read, from which country and kind of device, and which site sent you. It sets no cookies and doesn't identify you: visits are counted with a hash of the request that changes every day.
