What's the nature year like in my town?

168 towns in 34 states have their own page: average frost dates, when spring's first leaves usually come, when fall color is under way in the state, and the nearest places we track with countdowns. The earliest first fall frost is in Butte, MT (around Sep 5), the latest in San Jose, CA (around Dec 25). Most towns so far: California (25), Ohio (11) and Pennsylvania (10).

Why isn't my town listed?

A town gets a page once it has at least 25,000 people and at least 3 of the places we track within 150 miles, so its page is about its own surroundings. Smaller towns next to a bigger one are listed on that town's page. More towns appear as we add places.

Where do the frost dates come from?

NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals at the nearest weather station (within 15 miles): the day a 32 °F night is as likely as not. Green-up dates are the USA-NPN Spring Index's 1991–2020 average at the town.
