Terms of Use

Catch the Peak is a free website about when and where nature peaks in the US. By using it you agree to these terms. They're short, and written to be read.

What the site is

Information for planning trips: usual timing, official reports, weather and the sources behind them. It's free to read, with no account. We show one sponsor, always labeled as such; the sponsor has no say in what the pages report.

No guarantee

Nature doesn't keep a schedule. Typical windows come from past seasons and can be off by weeks; reports describe one day at one place. Roads, trails and parks close without notice. Check the official source for a place (linked on every page) before you travel, and read our disclaimer. The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, and to the extent the law allows we aren't liable for losses from relying on it.

Our sources and their licenses

  • Most facts come from US federal agencies (the National Park Service, the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the US Geological Survey, NOAA and the National Weather Service, the Census Bureau), whose own works are in the public domain. We don't imply that any agency endorses this site.
  • Phenology data: USA National Phenology Network, under CC BY 4.0.
  • A few facts are adapted from Wikivoyage and Wikipedia, under CC BY-SA 4.0; each is credited where it appears, and our wording of those facts is shared under the same license.

Every source is listed on our sources page.

Our own content

The site's design, illustrations, maps we draw and our own writing are © Catch the Peak, except where a page says otherwise (as for the CC BY-SA facts above). You're welcome to link to any page and to quote a short passage with a link back.

Fair use of the site

Please don't try to break the site, overload it, or copy it wholesale with automated tools. Links to other websites are for your convenience; we don't control them.

Sponsors

We show one sponsor per calendar month, always labeled “Sponsor”. A sponsorship is a one-time payment through Stripe for one calendar month, at the price shown for that month; it doesn't renew. Sponsors have no say in what the pages report.

  • We review every sponsor before it goes live and may refuse or remove any sponsor at our discretion, including anything misleading, adult, gambling-related or illegal.
  • If we decline a sponsorship, we refund it in full.
  • No auto-renewal: your card is shown from the first to the last day of your month, then comes off. To be shown again, reserve another month.
  • We don't guarantee any amount of traffic, clicks or results.
  • We build your card from the details you send (name, logo, one line, link); you confirm you have the right to use them.
